UCL-Wide Activity: Communal Coil Pot

We are test­ing activ­it­ies for our pub­lic pro­gramme, and invite every­one in the Marshg­ate and Pool Street build­ings to drop into our Strat­ford Space to help make a large pot out of clay coils. We’ll show par­ti­cipants how to roll out clay coils and then teach you to smush and smooth these onto our com­mun­al cre­ation. What heights will the col­lect­ive coil­ers reach?!

• Come to the Insti­tute of Mak­ing ground floor entrance in the Marshg­ate Build­ing, Strat­ford, between 12 – 2pm to join in.
• Tak­ing part in this activ­ity could be as quick as five minutes end-to-end, although if it is busy there may be a queue (and if it is quiet you might want to keep on coil­ing for longer!) 
• Though the activ­ity is rel­at­ively clean, your clothes may get slightly dusty and you will need to wash your hands afterwards.

• This event is open to every­one at UCL. You don’t need to be a mem­ber of the Insti­tute of Mak­ing or to have any pre­vi­ous ceram­ic train­ing or exper­i­ence in order to join in. 
• As with all clay work, coil­ing works best when your fin­ger­nails are nice and short, although this isn’t essential.
