We ask for members' gender identity because research indicates sizable gender imbalances in Makespaces and workshops. This is something we’ve been conscious of since we built the Institute of Making workshop. We’ve taken various approaches to attempt to create a space that’s inviting to all genders and non-binary folks.

This form is one way for us to understand who is using the Institute of Making and who isn't. We'd welcome your feedback, as this form - alongside other actions that we take to ensure everyone feels safe and welcome at the Institute of Making - continues to be a work in progress.
