UCL-Wide Activity: Pottery Wheel Challenge

We are test­ing activ­it­ies for our pub­lic pro­gramme, and invite every­one in the Marshg­ate and Pool Street build­ings to drop into our Strat­ford Space to try the pot­ters’ wheel. We will provide balls of clay and a throw­ing coach, and chal­lenge you to see how tall or wide a shape you can make with­in 5 minutes.

• Come to the Insti­tute of Mak­ing ground floor entrance in the Marshg­ate Build­ing, Strat­ford, between 12 – 2pm to join in.
• Tak­ing part in this activ­ity could be as quick as ten minutes end-to-end, although if it is busy there may be a queue.
• The activ­ity is quite messy: your clothes may get splashed by clay water (which will clean out in the wash) and you will need to wash your hands afterwards.
• This activ­ity is a taster ses­sion only. To use our pot­tery wheels in the future, please register as a mem­ber of the Insti­tute of Mak­ing and then fol­low the required train­ing ses­sions for the wheels.

• This event is open to every­one at UCL. You don’t need to be a mem­ber of the Insti­tute of Mak­ing or to have any pre­vi­ous ceram­ic train­ing or exper­i­ence in order to join in. 
• Please make sure you wear closed-toe and flat shoes (no high heels!) and make sure that your fin­ger­nails are nice and short.
