Members Event: Robots Week

Over the course of the week we are celebrating robots in all shapes, forms and functions. In the morning and afternoons there will be bookable masterclasses for our members. Every lunchtime during the week we will be open to all students and staff at UCL to take have a look around the Institue of Making and even sign up to become a member.
Members Challenge: The Great Egg Race
During the week we will also be launching The Great Egg Race robots challenge. The challenge is to build/make a moving 'thing' which will have to pick up an egg and travel a distance to deposit elsewhere, without smashing the egg! The race itself will be held on Wednesday 10th December, there will be plenty of time to make your robot.

Members Challenge: The Great Egg Race

The challenge is to build a moving robot that can pick up an egg and travel a short distance before putting it down in a nest, without smashing it! Your robot will need to travel over a variety of different terrains/surfaces, straddle a post, go under a limbo pole, negotiate a sideways slope and navigate through a slalom to finally deliver the fresh, un-smashed egg, into its/ nest.

Public and Members event: The History of Robots with Iain Duncan

Iain Duncan has been involved with robotics, automation and control systems for most of his long career. His talk will cover everything from the History of Robots to a personal history of robots Iain has made and there will even be a short interactive activity.

Members Event: Animatronic Eye Making Masterclass

Participants will build an animatronic copy of their own eye! The sessions will begin by demonstrating how to make a mould of your eye and how to use this to cast a latex copy of your eyelid. The next step will be to construct a mechanism to mount a doll’s eyeball so that it can move from side to side, then stick the eyelids over them. You will even be able to take the eye home!

UCL Lunchtime Looks
