During the week, we will explore how to make a portable propane fired furnace. Participants will be involved in every step of the process and will need to attend the full course.

Luted or sealed crucible casting is low a cost, and low-tech method of casting, relatively unknown outside India and west Africa. Artist Piers Watson has been exploring this type of casting and has been teaching it all over the world.

Come along on Saturday 27th June for our second extravaganza of Stuff!! This five day festival will culminate in a public event on a grand scale. We will be taking over the whole street outside of the Institute of Making for our finale, filling it with demo-stalls and making stations, bringing back this year’s favourite activities and some new discoveries.

In this hands-on session led by Dr Shelley James, participants will use the latest generation of portable flameworking torches fuelled by a simple gas canister to explore basic techniques: heating, shaping, blowing simple forms and creating holes.
