Festival of Stuff: Morning Session - Paper Cord Weaving

Join Ann Nazareth to weave a decorative water scoop with paper cord using a simple basketry technique called twining. Once you’ve mastered the basic skills of paper cord weaving you will be able to develop your own ideas for 3-dimensional weaving in ways that will delight and surprise.

Join Stella Harding to make a small random weave basket using a variety of wires. Stella makes three-dimensional woven structures in a wide variety of materials using techniques derived from traditional basketry.

In the morning class you will have the opportunity to learn to weave using beautiful native willow. Kneeling on the floor, you will learn a very simple technique to make a Catalan tray.

Members’ Masterclass: Stone as a Material

In this masterclass you will learn about the properties of different marbles, hard stones and gemstones, and get a chance to get hands-on with pierre dure panel-making, faceting, cabochon cutting and sawing with diamond saws.

Members Masterclass: Glass as a material

In this masterclass you will be invited to attack everyday objects with heat, hammer and acid to test the limits of the vast range of materials that go by the name of glass. You will also be given a brief introduction to the history of glass, its role in science and culture.

Factory Tour: London Glassblowing Studio

Whilst on the tour you will be able to experience the heat and magic of the ancient craft of glassblowing while watching the blowers gather the molten glass which they work and evolve into sculptural and functional objects.
