1 – A quick description:

These are compact and precise mechanical sewing machines for home use made by the swiss brand Bernina. It is an ideal machine for beginners, but even those with years of experience will be able to appreciate its qualities.

 

2 – What can I use this tool for?

In the past our sewing machines have been used to make or repair clothes but also to create installations, all kind of wearables for medical purpose, inflatables, upholstery and much more.

 

3 – Materials used with this tool:

You can use this sewing machine for any project involving natural fibres like cotton, linen or wool; fine fabrics such as silk, satin, taffeta or velvet; knits (medium to heavyweight only); synthetic fabrics like rayon or polyester; upholstery; leather or suede.

 

4 – What training do I need to use this tool?

To use our sewing machines, you will need to book and attend the Sewing Machine Induction. This 60-minute induction will show you how to thread and operate our sewing machines and troubleshooting for if you run into problems. You will go through basic stitches, fabrics, winding bobbins and choosing appropriate needles as well as best practices for operation. You will also be shown where to find and store related tools and fabrics. 
When you have completed the tool training session, you will be able to book a machine through the Institute of makings website.
