1 – Tool Description
The Xtion Pro is a hand held RGBD camera capable of 3D scanning medium and large sized objects quickly. Itcan be used to take 3D scans of people, spaces and objects using a software called Skanect which is installed on the Makespace PCs.
NB: The Xtion Pro won’t be able to scan small details that are less then 6 mm, it is great for a quick scan of a medium to large scale object but don’t expect a high-resolution 3D scan.
2 – What can I do with it
Scan an object in order to be able to print a copy of it using a 3D printer. Create a scan of a body part or object to enable you to design another part to fit it. Scan an object, person or space for use in video or 3D graphics applications.
3 – Materials
Most objects and materials should be scannable. You may run into problems when scanning things that are shiny or transparent. Where appropriate it is possible to get around this by dulling the surface of your target object using a chalk or similar.
4 – What do I need to do to be able to use this tool
The induction for Xtion Pro is by arrangement with a technician. If you want to use the scanner pop in when we are open and work out a time to be inducted with one of the team.
