Festival of Stuff: Afternoon - Experimental Pewter Casting Masterclass

Festival of Stuff

Past event

Location
Bloomsbury
Date
Thursday 23rd June 2016
Time
14:00 — 16:30

In this masterclass, lead by jewellery designer Sian Evans, you will be exploring the ancient craft of cuttlefish casting in pewter, with ‘cast in’ elements. After a demonstration of the craft you will have the opportunity to cast your own jewellery or object to take away with you. You are required to bring along a small solid object, ideally made from metal or stone, that will not distort or crack when pressure is applied. An object this size of jewellery would be perfect though it does not need to be an item of jewellery. The object you will bring along will be cast into the pewter in the cuttlefish.

Sian Evans is an award winning jewellery designer and academic with a special interest in ancient jewellery technologies. She explores modern applications of ancient crafts in her jewellery design. There will also be the opportunity to see some of her work created using cuttlefish casting during this masterclass.
