Welcome back members! Here’s how to visit the workshop…

Hello members of the Institute of Making,

Our workshop and Materials Library are open this term and we look forward to welcoming you back! However, we have made some changes to our operation so read the below in order to plan your visit:

Opening dates & times:

Tuesday 21st to Friday 24th September - Our workshop and Materials Library will reopen on a trial basis the week of  for fully inducted members only. You can drop in to use the workshop or book tools during our morning (10am-1pm) and afternoon (2pm-5pm) sessions.  This is to test our Covid secure measures before general reopening later in the term. Please don’t start any large project during this week as you won’t have time to finish them before we close again the next week.

Monday 27th September to Friday 8th October - We will be holding new members inductions. These will be available to book via our website from 12pm on Friday 24th September.

Monday 11th to Friday 15th October - We will be running a series of free events around the theme of Repair. Keep an eye on your mailbox for more details.

Tuesday 19th October onwards - The workshop will reopen for tool bookings and general drop-in. Check the website regularly to stay abreast of tool training sessions and events throughout this term.

Note: our workshop hours have changed; we will be open for morning and afternoon sessions and will be closed daily between 1-2pm for cleaning.

Before you visit:

Check that the workshop is open for drop-in, as we are running several weeks of inductions and masterclasses.

Bring a face covering.

Wear closed-toe shoes.

When you arrive:

Wear an apron at all times. We now have different aprons for different ways of using the space:

Black aprons are for general drop-in visits.

Grey aprons are specific to tool bookings (these will be bookable on our website from 19 October, with more tools available, including our pewter crucible, screen printing kit and jewellery kit).

Plastic aprons are for plaster and ceramics work.

Safety glasses must now be worn at all times whilst in the downstairs workshop. These are available next to the aprons at the entry. Please remember to clean your glasses before you put them on and when you are leaving.

COVID safety policy:

Hands:

- Clean your hands on arrival and regularly through your making session. Alcohol gel and hand washing sinks are available in the workshop.

Face:

- Masks must worn at all times whilst in the workshop and materials library.

- If for any reason you can’t wear a mask, please see a member of staff.

- Our team will also help you if your glasses fog up.

Space:

- When you arrive, a staff member will allocate a workspace to you to enable social distancing. Numbers are limited to help keep you safe.

- Make sure to clean your workspace and tools with provided disinfectant wipes when you’re finished.

- To enable you to clean your space properly, morning and afternoon sessions will end 15 minutes before closing times.
