RS Pro IdeaWerk

1 – A quick description:

The Ideawerk is an entry level Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM)3D printer that we have been using for more experimental 3D printing processes. It can print materials other than white PLA, for example flexible or conductive filaments.

Even though this 3D printer is not as precise as the Ultimakers and has a slightly smaller print bed, it can be used to print many different objects.

2 – What can I use this tool for?

  • Projects that need specific or customised parts that would be tricky to make in any other way.
  • 3D prints in other materials than white PLA.
  • Physical production of CAD models that have been designed or downloaded. This can include anything from: parts for robots, elements of mechanical mechanisms, architectural models, artwork, or even miniature characters for table top gaming.
  • Models that are generated from scanned data such as MRI, laser scans or photogrammetry.

3 – Materials used with this tool:

  • Filament Size:..........1.75mm filament.
  • In the past we have printed PLA in multiple colours, Ninjaflex (flexible filament), Conductive PLA, Carbon fibre PLA, etc.
If you come across a new filament that you would like to try, have a chat with a technician and we will see if we can print with it.

4 – What training do I need to use this tool?

To use any of our 3D printers you will need to book and attend the 3D print - Ultimaker 2 Tool Training session.
When you have completed the tool training session, you will be able to use Ultimaker 2 and 2+ on a first-come-first-served basis, but to use the Ideawerk you will need to speak to a technician first as the setup is different to the process for the Ultimaker 2.

5 – Technical specifications:
