My Research Makespace: Using underwater lasers to study the impact of deep-sea trawling in Greenland

The deep-sea is the earth’s last unexplored frontier, an ecosystem beyond the reach of sunlight, which we know very little about. But PhD student Stephen Long is discovering more with low-cost video rigs that he produced in the Makespace. ‘My Research Makespace’ is our new informal research event series for members. Each evening features a UCL Researcher and how they navigate the Makespace to develop their academic work.

Back by popular demand! Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver or platinum. Kintsugi is a very popular practice in Japan and can be seen to have similarities to the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, an embracing of the flawed or imperfect.
