Bring along your favourite ceramic mug, plate or object to give it a new lease of life! In this workshop, Bridget Harvey will explore creative ways to mend broken ceramics. The results may be unexpected, with the potential for items to be transformed into more sculptural than functional forms. After looking at your object, Bridget will guide you through the different materials and methods available to assemble them into re-imagined and re-purposed objects.
No experience or skill necessary, all welcome!
To take part in the session you will need:
- a broken ceramic object in need of repair
Bridget Harvey is an interdisciplinary artist, maker and educator working with found objects and materials such as fired ceramics, wood, and textiles. Her inventive and playful practice focuses on repair within multiple disciplines and as independent practice since 2013. Bridget is interested in how making and repairing helps us understand ourselves and what we do/own, aiming to generate new understanding and add meanings through craft. Bridget’s artist residency at the Victoria & Albert Museum in 2018-19 explored the relationship of repair to conservation through artefacts, a publication and an exhibition. Her recent collaboration with artists in the exhibition in National Glass Centre explored the idea of repurposing different materials as well.
