Materials Library presents…

Monday 06 November 2006 6:00pm - 9:00pm

Tate Modern

A series four performative investigations highlighting the science and materiality behind some of the works of art in Tate Modern's re-hung collection. Taking each gallery space in turn as provocation for investigation, this is your chance to have a tactile encounter with the stuff of art.

Each event will begin outside the gallery once the museum is shut to the public at 6.30 pm. You will have the opportunity to be alone in the gallery and examine pieces from the Materials Library collection juxtaposed with the works of art. No more 'please do not touch'; Materials Library invites you to explore and question the scientific, cultural and sensual nature of materials in relation to highlighted works within the gallery space. Each night will contain different activities and materials conjectures such as the opportunity to play a lead bugle, to stand on a thermochromic Matisse and sit amongst The Surrealists and to do battle on the smallest chess set in the world. We encourage you to attend as many of the evenings as possible in order to gain the full Materials Library experience. Each event will finish at 8pm followed by drinks and an opportunity for discussion.
