Antimicrobial Materials

Director of Making Martin Conreen will be in residence at the Institute of Making for one day a week this term. Aside from being one of the co-founders of the Institute of Making and Senior Lecturer in Design at Goldsmiths, Martin has extensive experience working with materials in fields as diverse as silver-smithing, shoe-making and furniture design.

From January, Martin will be developing a new interdisciplinary research project that explores antimicrobial materials and surfaces. Following on from our research into the taste of spoons and the sound of materials he will be making a series of discursive objects that explore materials, coatings and systems that give bactericidal properties, as well as ways in which materials and designed objects can give people cues to encourage more thorough cleaning.
