Member Event: Material Invention
Friday 17 May 2013 3:32pm - 3:32pm
Institute of Making
The first in a series of diverse workshops on the theme of Material Invention, this full-day hands-on session explores multisensory approaches to designing material feel and performance.
Research-based design practice Angles between Curves creates tactile, interactive and performance textiles for product and environment. They lead the day’s experiments, which include “ready steady make” – three courses of sensory thinking through making, and “melt mash manipulate” – a mash up of experimental materials; heat-fusing, steaming and constructing new composites.
Everything we learn we learn better when it seems
to have no particular purpose, when it is pure fun
and when we do not merely grasp it with our minds
but also with our hands”
