Mark Miodownik to give the Ri Christmas lectures

Have you ever seen a solid that could be a liquid depending on how long you look at it? How can hamsters survive falling from an airplane? How can hair keep you warm in the cold and cool in the heat? The thing that could provide the answers is the question that has plagued us all –does size matter? Would we be faster, stronger, smarter and generally have more fun if we were as small as an ant or would it be better if we were as large as a planet?

Well our very own Mark Miodownik will be explaining this and much more when he gives the 2010 Royal Institution Christmas lectures. To be given on the 14th, 16th and 18th of December, those of you not lucky enough to have a ticket (sold out) can watch them from the comfort of your home, as they will be broadcast on BBC 4 on the 28th, 29th and 30th of December.
